Although it has long been known that severe Vitamin D deficiency has serious consequences for bone health, recent research suggests that less obvious tates of Vitamin D deficiency are common and increase the risk of osteoporosis and other health problems.
Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) also called pythonadione/phylloquinone is the natural plant form of this nutrient. Vitamin K2 (menaquinone), is produced by bacteria in animal and human intestines. Vitamin K3 (menadione), is the synthetic version.
The three forms are about equally helpful for blood clotting, but Vitamin K1, the form that only occurs in green plants, seems to be the best form for protecting against osteoporosis.
